Collection Historical Note

Carl "Chip" Stam was associate professor in the School of Church Ministries at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He also served as the conductor of the Seminary's Oratorio Chorus and was the founding director of the Institute for Christian Worship.

In March of 2002, he accepted a call to be the minister of worship at Clifton Baptist Church (Louisville KY).

From 1991-2000 he lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and served as pastor of worship and music at the Chapel Hill Bible Church. He was also the conductor of the Chapel Hill Carrboro Community Chorus and music director of Raspberry Ridge: The Chapel Hill String Camp.

From 1981-1991 he was director of choral music at the University of Notre Dame where he conducted the Notre Dame Glee Club and the Notre Dame Chorale.

Since 1995, he  produced the Worship Quote of the Week, a website and e-mail ministry that delivered interesting and challenging quotes about the nature of worship and prayer in the life of the Christian church. The site also contained a full WQOTW index of over 300 quotations.

Chip was married to Doris and had three children - Michael, Martin, and Clara.

Shortly after his death, his office materials (papers, hymnals, media, scores, etc.) were transferred to the seminary library for preservation, with the permission of Doris. The choral scores and anthems were given to students and library patrons. Many of the hymnals were added to the library collection (list held in Archives); others were given to colleauges and friends.
