Scope and Contents: The T. T. Eaton Papers are comprised of correspondence, essays, sermons, notes, pamphlets, and publications that were created or collected by T. T. Eaton. This material covers topics associated with his personal and professional life. The majority of this collection pertains to Eaton's work as pastor of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville and editor of the Western Recorder, a Baptist newspaper published in Louisville, KY. Significant portions of this material deal with Eaton's adamant opposition to the views of William Heth Whitsitt and Eaton's campaign to secure Whitsitt's removal as President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
This collection also contains 35 Sermons by T. T. Eaton's father, Joseph H. Eaton, who was pastor of the Baptist church of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and President of Union University at Murfreesboro.
