Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Billy Graham Collection comprises eighteen cubic feet of documents, approximately 50 bound scrapbooks, and multiple published books.  This collection consists primarily of Graham crusade materials. Series 1, Crusade Files, contains a chronological record of crusades dating from 1949 until 1976 with additional files dating up to 1984.  Series 2, Louisville Crusade Materials 1956 & 2001, contains primarily of organizational and planning materials associated with the 1956 Louisville Crusade, with additional material related to the 2001 Louisville Crusade.  Series 3, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Records and Paraphernalia, contains records and paraphernalia relating to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.  Items of particular interest in this collection are: multiple Graham sermons from 1950-1957, numerous articles written by Graham, and records of crusade attendance and decisions.  Series 4 consists of the decision cards from Graham's 1956 Louisville crusade. Series 5 includes nearly 50 large scrapbooks of newspaper clippings regarding Graham's crusades and influence in world events.

Collection Historical Note

In 1956, Duke McCall convinced Billy Graham to house his ministry records at SBTS.  In 1960, the seminary dedicated the Billy Graham Room on the Boyce Centennial Library's second floor, which served as the official repository for Billy Graham Evangelistic Association materials during the next two decades.  In 1975, Wheaton College established their Billy Graham Center, and SBTS collection development gradually ceased.  Scrapbooking of newspaper clippings of Graham's ministry continued into the following decade, and the BGEA donated occassional paraphernalia from later crusades.  The Archives' Billy Graham Collection consists of the materials that remain from the old Billy Graham Room, in addition to donations received by individuals.
