Historical Note:

Carl "Chip" Stam was associate professor in the School of Church Ministries at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He also served as the conductor of the Seminary's Oratorio Chorus and as the founding director of the Institute for Christian Worship.

In the summer of 2007, Chip was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a cancer that eventually took his life in May 2011.

In March of 2002, he accepted a call to be the minister of worship at Louisville's Clifton Baptist Church.

From 1991-2000 he lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and served as pastor of worship and music at the Chapel Hill Bible Church. He was also the conductor of the Chapel Hill Carrboro Community Chorus and music director of Raspberry Ridge: The Chapel Hill String Camp.

From 1981-1991 he was director of choral music at the University of Notre Dame where he conducted the Notre Dame Glee Club and the Notre Dame Chorale.

From 1995 until his death, he produced the Worship Quote of the Week, an e-mail ministry that supplied interesting and challenging quotes about the nature of worship and prayer in the life of the Christian church. The emails circulated widely among worship leaders in the U.S. and abroad.

Chip was married to Doris and had three children - Michael, Martin, and Clara.
