Carver School of Church Social Work (Louisville, Ky.) | Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Archives

Name: Carver School of Church Social Work (Louisville, Ky.)

Historical Note: The Carver School of Church Social Work was established as a distinct school within the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984. The roots of this school go back to the inclusion of social work courses in the curriculum of the Woman's Missionary Union Training School in 1912. The WMU Training School was renamed the Carver School of Missions and Social Work in 1953. A decade later, in 1963, that school was merged into the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as a part of the School of Religious Education where it remained until being established as a distinct school of the seminary in 1984. The Carver School of Church Social Work was closed at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1997 and transferred to Campbellsville University in 1998.
