Acquired: 05/07/2009. Subsequent accruals to this collection are expected. A portion of the records created by Ronald Deering are still in active use by the current librarian of the James P. Boyce Centennial Library and will be added as an accrual to the Ronald Deering Records when the librarian determines that they are no longer needed to support current operations in the library.
Arrangement: Files were arranged alphabetically according to  subject by Ronald Deering. That original arrangement has been preserved.
Biographical Note for Deering, Ronald F. (1929-) :

Dr. Deering served as Associate Vice President for Academic Resources at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He also, served as Seminary Librarian from 1961 until his retirement in 2001.  Dr. Deering has distinguished himself as one of the nation's leading theological librarians.  He is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Library Association and the Southeastern Library Association.  He received the Eli Lilly Grant for Theological Librarianship in 1967.  Dr. Deering is the past president of the American Theological Library Association and past chairman of the Southern Baptist Historical commission, the Kentuckiana Metroversity Library Council, and the Theological Education Association of Mid-America Librarians.  Dr. Deering has also served as pastor in Indiana and Ohio and as interim pastor in many churches.

Acquisition Notes: Bruce Keisling  We acquired many of these materials from Bruce Keisling, the seminary librarian. They were intermixed with Keisling's records. He deposited the entirety of the records that were no longer in use.  Other materials were previously housed in the Inner Archives and Rare Book Room.
